The main expected results are: – the development of new bio-based and waste-based materials, which might replace some of the currently used fibers in textile industry and materials in furniture industry, with a considerable improvement of the sustainability indicators compared to the corresponding materials produced from conventional sources. A portfolio of new eco-friendly materials with technical and aesthetic features suitable for the envisaged application will be developed. – digitally enhanced mix-design algorithms and solutions (e.g., apps) that will enable the industrial designers to formulate tailored and customizable materials for the Italian furniture industry. – the development and exploitation of new digitally enhanced mix-design solutions for the manufacturing of materials for the furniture and textile industry will allow an improved valorisation of waste and by-products currently produced by Italian industry. The materials will be characterised by a decreased environmental impact and carbon footprint. – the creation of a collaborative digital interface that allows designers to create customized materials and to check their end-of-life impact and possible applications in the textile and furniture sector on the one hand, and to network the mix-design produced by each designer on the other hand, creating an open database that can be used and implemented by a network of industrial designers.
